STEVEN CLAPPERTON

As Director of Sustainable Marine Operations, Steven leads the Port of London Authority’s marine operations teams, which includes environment, marine services, civil and marine engineering, and the ports hydrographic services. His responsibilities include delivering the authority’s sustainability commitments and net zero transition, and manging the marine infrastructure, significant vessel fleet and, salvage operations, and delivery of major projects He has a strong focus on environmental issues and is passionate about conserving and improving our rivers.

Prior to the PLA, Steven was Maritime Director & Harbour Master at the Port of Tyne for the preceding 5 years. Following a seagoing career, he first worked at the Port of Tyne from 2005 to 2013 as a senior pilot, before joining DNV GL and working on various marine projects, including a period of secondment to an international oil major. Alongside this, Steven has held a number of voluntary roles including being a Trustee of the Tyne Rivers Trust. Steven is a Master Mariner and Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute.
